Out of each location in the Asylum, the Serious Afflictions Area, was the most prevalent site for experimentation. It was the place where the most incidious experimentation methods were created and first practiced. These methods were brutal and created what seemed to be monsters from horror movies. Various seemingly inhuman creates were created as a result of the practicioning of these brutal methods.
Brutal Methods
As aforementioned, these experiments vary and are high in number. They include injecting dangerous substances into the body, test top secret weaponry, and other experimental material. The reasoning behind the name of this faction relates to the fact that the patients are severely disfigured. Some patients were normal, in appearance, some weren't. One thing that is common is the fact that the patients were subject to brutal experimentation.
The Experimentation
There were various types of experimentation victims, that were categorized by the nature of their disfigurement.
Bloat
Gas
Diseased
Afflicted
The Bloat
The Bloat, as they are, were created via the injection of untested material into pregnant women. This resulted in extremely disfigured babies, whom, where massively swolen and filled with fluid. The large sacks of fluid would burst, resulting in the deaths of the children. This was due to the fact that blood vessels and viens were integrated into these sacks. The massive weight of the growths stopped children from walking, perminantely. As they grow older, the fluid filled growths grow further in size, the average weight of a patient was 400 lbs. The Bloats would remain in a bed bound or on the floor, they would have to be moved at a constant basis, or their growths would deploy a sticky substance that will attach them surfaces. If unchecked, the bloats will create strange growths, binding them to walls and other surfaces. These growths may overpower the body of the patient, it way even have resulted in the sophication of the patient. Sometimes, the growths would digest the ribs and other body parts. If this happens, then the lungs will be assimilated into the growths. This will cause the growths to swell and decompress, as the patient draws breaths. They don't pose any threat, however, they are a testament to the brutality of the Asylum.
The Gas
The Gas, are the individuals that were seen, in Therapy. Unlike the other mutations, these are extremely intelligent. They are disfigured, with sharp teeth, are malnorished, hairless, massively long nails, and slightly stretched heads. Due to the gasses that they were exposed to, they possess superhuman strength and endurance. Akin to Horde, its better to hide, as opposed to fleeing them. Both will catch you! These individuals are also vile cannibals and have been known to consume each other's organs. Despite the fact that organs were missing from their bodies, they were still able to hunt.
The Diseased
The diseased, as the name preludes, refers to a group of victimized patients whom are sick. They been injected with various know diseases, from other patients and from the laboratory. As a result of this, these patients are ridden with various disease symptoms. They don't live long, at most a few months. In that time they will suffer from 100s of different diseases, ranging from herpies to smallpox. These patients often vomit when they feel threatened, dousing the victim in biohazardous bile. They are largely weak and crippled, however, they will attack when given the opportunity. The diseased can be heard generating a blood curling wail. This because they are in extreme pain as the various dieases eat away at their decaying flesh.
The Afflicted
The Afflicted, much like the gas, worship the Grave Robber. However, they take their worship to a higher, more dedicated level. These translates to them taking parts from bodies and attaching them to their own bodies. The scientists and doctors observed these actions. They decided to capture these individuals and mirror their actions. The scientists took parts of dead bodies and sowed them into the patients' bodies. Special chemicals were used to pervent injection and perserve nerve tissue. However, the patients' body often rejected the body parts and organs that they were fused with. This would result in a massive immune response, resulting in sores, swelling, aggression, and the formation of massive bumps and glands in the skin.
